His name is Barry Williams, but he probably is better known by his TV character's name, Greg Brady of “The Brady Bunch.”
Now 52, Williams continues a career in show business, including appearances across the country in 1970s-themed promotions. He also sings the national anthem at baseball games, reports the St. Petersburg Times.
Williams was asked if it's difficult singing the anthem at huge baseball venues.
“It depends on the conditions,” he said. “If you have a big delay, it can be very intimidating. Like Yankee Stadium has a second-and-a-half delay, so while you're singing you hear what you sang a second and a half ago, and that can be very disorienting. But I find it kind of thrilling, too. It's not an easy song, but I've done 75 or so musicals and there are other songs that are 'rangier.' Really, it's a pleasure to sing the song Mr. Key wrote.”
As for sports in general:
“I've been an athlete my whole life. Before 'The Brady Bunch,' I played Little League and all that. And my whole life I've done things like surf and snorkel and body surf and a lot of the water sports.”
How does Williams explain the continuing popularity of “The Brady Bunch”?
“I just think people watch that show and see some of the values we had and how close-knit the cast was. You could see we really enjoyed being around one another and putting on a good, wholesome show. Every episode has been shown across the world 175,000 times.”
